Mission
We help incarcerated women build confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of community through participation in comedy workshops; encourage constructive self-expression; and model positive behaviors and ways to handle stress both inside prison and upon rejoining society.
Dear Subscriber,
I’m so pleased to share with you that my budding nonprofit, Laughing on the Inside, Inc., is finally launching!
After two years of hard work—and thanks to a stellar group of people—we are an incorporated 501(c)(3) entity poised to fulfill our mission to enhance and expand the lives of incarcerated women. You can read more about it on our new website.
Our first initiative is to teach comedy to female inmates, providing them with a constructive channel through which to explore their life experiences, both positive and negative, and giving them more tools to help them reflect and rebuild, and regain their voices.
We are scheduled to go into Valley State Prison for Women (VSPW) in Chowchilla in late September, where we will partner with the San Francisco Comedy College to teach stand-up to 30 women, and improv to up to 70 women during the weekend-long workshop. The women will also be encouraged to take what they learn back to their dorms and share with other inmates, expanding the student base.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Thank you so much for your support!
Of course, your donations are gratefully appreciated and very much needed. The money we raise goes to providing the instructors fair pay for their time and expertise, and provides their accommodations during the weekend courses. This is a wonderful way for us to support the arts while serving the inmate community. Donations may be made through PayPal or Razoo, and are fully tax-deductable.
BTW, if you wish to contribute in memory of a loved one on the Razoo site, we will also place that person’s name on our website’s In Memoriam page. If you wish us to add their photo and/or a short tribute, send the image and information (up to 60 words – we can help you edit) to teresa@laughingontheinside.org
There are many more ways you can help LOTI accomplish its mission. Simply put, please tell everyone you know! Everything you do to spread the word will help.
